Bite symptoms often occur on parts of the body that are most exposed during sleep, such as the arms, legs, neck, and face, but can occur on any part of the body. Many individuals do not react the first time to the bite and the development of the bites. There will be a delayed response to the development of the bite symptoms (several days to a week). For those who do react to the feeding activity of bed bugs, there is a great deal of variability in how they react. Typical symptoms are small red marks or welts similar to mosquito bites, although these tend to be intensely itchy, often lasting several days. Those who are allergic may develop large oval or oblong wheals that itch and become inflamed. Due to the variability in the bite symptoms, bed bug bites are often misdiagnosed. From a survey by the University of Kentucky, the study found that 30% of the people were not experiencing symptoms from bed bug bites, and the study found that people over 65 were less likely to react to bed bug bites than younger individuals. Notes: Immature bed bugs feed for 3-5 minutes, while adults feed for 10-20 minutes. (Potter et al. 2010) Source: Mallis 10th edition. #bites #exterminateur #extermination #bedbugs #punaise
